A Louisville family court judge will forfeit 30 days of salary after a disciplinary panel suspended her for misconduct. Lauren Adams Ogden accepted the penalty, which starts at midnight on Nov. 8 and ends at 11:59 p.m. on Dec. 8. The suspension follows multiple complaints regarding her performance in the Jefferson County courts.
The ruling states that Ogden failed to perform her judicial duties competently. It also found that she failed to comply with the law in several cases she adjudicated. These findings form the basis for the disciplinary action taken against the judge this week.
Protestors gathered outside the Jefferson County Judicial Center on Monday to demand accountability. Some attendees said they were personally affected by Ogden’s actions in court. One woman stated that her child was removed from her home because Ogden failed to hear her family’s case.
The judge’s attorney confirmed that Ogden agreed to the suspension terms. In addition to losing pay, she must complete an educational course on hearing conduct and due process. She has six months from the order to finish this requirement.
The suspension is a 30-day period without pay. The order specifically targets her failure to follow legal standards in her rulings. The protest on Monday served as a public response to the news of her suspension.
