The holiday music market often relies on established seasonal hits, but Olivia Rodrigo enters the space this year with a new original composition. The artist confirmed the release of her first dedicated Christmas single, titled 'take me home (4 christmas),' for this Thursday.
The digital single is scheduled to drop at 8 p.m. ET on November 5. Alongside the audio file, a new music video will premiere at the same time. The visual project features Rodrigo alongside actor Cynthia Nixon and Ben Marshall from the television show Saturday Night Live.
Rodrigo announced the project directly to her followers on Instagram. 'my first Christmas song 'take me home (4 christmas)' is out this Thursday at 5 pm pt/ 8 pm ET!! you can preorder it now. im so excited!!' she wrote in the post.
Physical media options accompany the digital release. An exclusive 7-inch vinyl record and a cassette tape are available for preorder on Rodrigo's personal website. Target stores will also stock the vinyl, with copies arriving on their shelves this Friday.
The track was written by Rodrigo, Dan Nigro, and Amy Allen. Nigro also served as the producer for the song. This release follows the recent launch of a remix for the track 'expectations,' which featured Chappell Roan. That collaboration reached the highest peak for an all-female partnership on the Billboard Hot 100 this year and pushed the album you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love back to the number one position on the Billboard 200 chart.
Rodrigo is currently performing on her The Unraveled Tour. According to a press release, the tour has sold more than 1 million tickets worldwide and has set new attendance records at several venues.
