St. Louis band Petty Grievances spent two years recording their debut album, Petty Party, which dropped in June with a total of 10 tracks.

The group recorded the material at Blue Rose Studio in south St. Louis. They laid down the first five songs in early 2024 and finished the remaining five in early 2025. Jeff Fields engineered and mixed the final product.

The lineup features vocalist Scott Randall, who previously sang for Fragile Porcelain Mice. He is joined by drummer Jerry Green, guitarist Brian Martin, bassist Mark Eberhardt, and guitarist and keyboardist Shauna Sublette. Sublette also plays in the bands Sisser and Zantigo!.

Green says the band formed after attending Goner Fest in Memphis. He and Eberhardt had discussed starting a project for a while and decided to move forward after that trip. They recruited Randall, who had played with them in a college band called Disco Zombies. Martin joined through a friend connection, while Green asked Sublette to play rhythm guitar after seeing her at a show.

Before the full album, the group released a four-song self-titled EP in October 2023. That followed two live tracks published in April 2023. The band has built a local following through regular performances in St. Louis and other cities.

Randall notes that the initial writing process was fast, but mixing and fine-tuning took longer. He says tracks like "Projection" took shape in the studio in ways they had not anticipated during rehearsal.

The album opens with "Compression Sox" and includes songs such as "Bigfoot," "Projection," and "Grifter." Green describes the music as a blend of punk, metal, and classic rock influences. He says the group aims to create a sound that reflects their collective identity rather than imitating a specific genre.

Randall says he makes a conscious effort to not take the music too seriously. He compares his approach in Petty Grievances to his work in previous bands, noting that he tries to enjoy every moment. Eberhardt adds that the band collaborates on riffs and ideas during practice sessions.

The band will perform the new material at the Punk Rock Pig Roast on November 7. The event takes place at South Broadway Athletic Club and starts at 3 p.m. Admission is free.

Green says the group has several songs ready to record and hopes to return to the studio soon. They plan to book more out-of-town shows in the coming year.
