Aung San Suu Kyi is being held in near-total isolation in Myanmar’s capital.

The 81-year-old former leader was deposed by a military coup in 2021.

She has been moved to an unspecified location in Naypyidaw.

Her son Kim Aris believes the site is a fenced-off residence.

The compound includes a patch of scrubby land.

Aris has spent most of his life in the United Kingdom.

His late father was a British historian.

Aris was permitted to speak with his mother on Thursday.

The call took place at the Myanmar embassy in London.

It was their first contact in more than five years.

Aris described the invitation as part of a public relations campaign.
