Kentucky holds the top position in the latest college football resume rankings for Week 9. The Wildcats earned this spot despite having only one win against an AP-poll ranked team this season. The new metric, the CFB Metrics Consensus, evaluates the difficulty of opponents rather than relying solely on current poll positions.
The ranking system integrates ten different power ratings into a single baseline. This approach aims to remove bias from any individual rating system. Kentucky’s resume includes road victories over Texas A&M, South Carolina, and Oklahoma. All three opponents are rated as top-30 teams in the CFB Metrics Consensus.
Kentucky holds a measurable advantage over No. 2 UCLA in the new standings. The formula behind the rankings is modeled on the NCAA basketball metric known as Wins Above Bubble. It calculates the probability that an average No. 25 team would defeat a specific opponent. A neutral-site victory over a No. 26 team adds 0.49 to a team’s total score.
Texas appears at No. 5 in the rankings despite carrying two losses on its season record. The Longhorns defeated No. 1 Ohio State and secured a road win against No. 11 Texas. Their recent victory over Ole Miss, currently ranked No. 12 in the AP poll, carries extra weight under the new system. The Rebels are rated as the ninth-best team in the CFB Metrics Consensus.
Auburn also benefits from the new calculation method. The team added 0.91 to its resume score after winning at No. 4 Georgia. This high value reflects the statistical likelihood that an average No. 25 team would lose that game 91 percent of the time. Road wins receive a higher weight than home victories in the final calculation.
The release of these rankings provides a new framework for evaluating postseason credentials. The system emphasizes the quality of competition faced by each program. Kentucky’s climb to the first position illustrates the shift toward evaluating total team performance over simple win-loss records.
The next update to these resume rankings is scheduled for the following week. Teams will continue to be evaluated based on their performance against the CFB Metrics Consensus baseline.
Players and coaches will use these updated numbers to assess their standing in the playoff picture. The focus remains on the objective difficulty of each game played.
