Eagles and Cowboys Seek Divisional Escape
Both teams are 2-4 and face off Monday after a historic winless stretch in the NFC East.

The Philadelphia Eagles and Dallas Cowboys meet Monday night in Philadelphia, each holding a 2-4 record. The game serves as a critical juncture for both franchises, as the division remains wide open despite recent struggles.
The New York Giants currently lead the NFC East with a 3-2-1 record. The Cowboys and Eagles trail that lead by a narrow margin. A historic anomaly has shaped the current standings: in the last two weeks, every team in the division played twice without securing a single victory. This marks the first instance of a winless two-week stretch for an entire division since the 1970 AFL-NFL merger.
Philadelphia faces a depleted roster. Quarterback Jalen Hurts is on injured reserve due to blood clots and is expected to miss the remainder of the season. Rookie Tanner McKee has stepped in as the starting quarterback. McKee’s first meaningful start came last week against Carolina, following a brief period where he served as a backup. He has had a full week to practice with new offensive coordinator Sean Mannion. McKee noted that he prefers working directly with the coaching staff rather than preparing in isolation.
The Eagles' offensive line and backfield are also dealing with injuries. Saquon Barkley has missed over two games with a hamstring issue. Backups Will Shipley and Tank Bigsby are also sidelined. Carson Steele, recently signed from the practice squad, suffered a shoulder injury against Carolina. Dameon Pierce was the only active running back to carry the ball in that loss, rushing for 35 yards. Dallas has allowed 4.7 yards per carry this season.
Dallas carries its own offensive and defensive woes. The defense ranks 30th in the league under first-year coordinator Christian Parker. The offense has scored only 29 points in its last two games, including a 23-13 loss to Green Bay. It is the first time since 2019 that Dak Prescott has started consecutive games where the team scored fewer than 20 points.
Owner Jerry Jones stated at the NFL's annual fall meeting that he does not anticipate further coaching changes. He described the recent hiring of Mike Pettine as a strategic move. Several statistical milestones are at stake for individual players. Javonte Williams is chasing Emmitt Smith’s rushing touchdown records, while CeeDee Lamb is approaching 8,000 career receiving yards. Eagles tight end Dallas Goedert needs one reception to enter the top three on the franchise's career receiving list.
The Cowboys are favored by four points. They hold a 72-58 all-time series lead and won the last meeting 24-21. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:15 p.m. CST on ESPN. The Eagles will next face Washington on Nov. 1 before hosting the Giants, a sequence that will determine the trajectory of their season.
