Eleven musicians will gather at Constellation in Chicago on November 22 to perform three pieces by Robbie Lynn Hunsinger. The event marks the first public performance of her new work, Pavane for Palestine, Lachrimae.
Hunsinger is a multi-instrumentalist and educator based in Chicago and Nashville. She plays oboe, free improvisation, and sideperson roles in rock, bluegrass, and country bands. She also founded Chicago Bird Collision Monitors, a group working to protect migratory birds from urban lighting.
The first set features a conducted chamber ensemble. Eclipse uses electronic percussion, soprano voice, and video projections to address Hunsinger’s mother’s illness, the first Trump election, and a solar eclipse. Catalyst is a syncopated response to bee colony population collapse.
Pavane for Palestine, Lachrimae was commissioned by Nashville composer Kelly Corcoran for her ensemble Intersection. The original 2024 premiere was canceled when half the musicians pulled out, citing the subject matter as controversial. They left after it was too late to find replacements.
The second set is a solo performance of Synesthesia Suite. Hunsinger combines intense color projections with live-looped instrumentation that mimics bird sounds.
Tickets for the 7:30 PM show are $20 plus fees, or $20.72 in advance. The venue is 3111 N. Western. The event is 18+.
