Woodstock has not won a playoff game since 2009. That streak ended Saturday when the Blue Streaks defeated Prairie Ridge 35-7 in the Class 5A first round.
Quarterback Cash White, playing on his birthday, accounted for four touchdowns. He rushed for 103 yards on 12 carries and passed for 119 yards on 6-of-8 completion. White also threw two touchdown passes to running back Nick Morrow. Morrow finished with 137 total yards and 83 receiving yards on two catches.
The Woodstock offense scored on all three possessions in the first half. The team built a 21-0 lead before halftime. The opening drive lasted 13 plays and covered 60 yards, ending with a 26-yard run by Morrow. White added a 19-yard rush in the second quarter and connected with Morrow for a 65-yard sideline score.
Woodstock coach Mike Brasile noted the team had prepared intensely after a bye week. He said the group put in extensive work to reach this moment. The defense limited Prairie Ridge to 172 total yards. Senior Jaxon Hansen recorded two tackles for loss, while Connor Calvin-Garcia and Morrow each had one.
Prairie Ridge finished its 3-8 season with a loss. Senior Jake Wagler led the Wolves with 64 rushing yards on 12 carries and scored on a four-yard run. Quarterback Brock Bowden added 33 yards on 11 carries. Coach Mike Frericks said his players remained resilient despite the pressure.
White said the offensive line dominated and allowed the team to run the ball effectively. Hansen added that the playoff atmosphere increased the team's speed and physicality. The Blue Streaks advance to the second round to play at St. Francis.
