An Electron rocket lifted off from New Zealand at 3:11 a.m. EDT on Oct. 23, carrying three new satellites for a Virginia-based intelligence firm.

The spacecraft, known as Hawk, will operate at an altitude of 520 kilometers in low Earth orbit. Once commissioned, they will scan the planet for radio frequency emissions. The mission, dubbed "We're Not Hawking Around," marks the 98th launch for Rocket Lab.

HawkEye 360 designs these units to function in groups of three. They gather data across the RF spectrum to support maritime tracking, radar monitoring, and space defense. The company provides these insights to the U.S. government and its allies to improve strategic decision-making.

The firm has placed nearly 50 of these sensors into orbit since its first deployment in 2018. This launch completed a rapid expansion of its fleet, as three other HawkEye satellites flew on a SpaceX Bandwagon-5 rideshare mission just two days earlier.

The 59-foot Electron rocket represents Rocket Lab's primary orbital vehicle. It accounts for 16 of the company's 19 flights in 2026. The remaining three launches used HASTE, a suborbital variant designed for hypersonic technology testing.

The satellites will now join the existing constellation to enhance signal processing capabilities. Their deployment continues the company's reliance on private aerospace infrastructure to deliver specialized data to national security partners.
