Lionsgate has scheduled the world premiere of 'The Housemaid' as a stage play for September 14, 2027, at London's Richmond Theatre.
Bekah Brunstetter, a Tony Award nominee, will write the script. Matthew Dunster, an Olivier Award nominee, has signed on to direct the production.
The play is a psychological thriller based on Freida McFadden's novel. The story centers on Millie, a convicted felon who works for Nina Winchester. Nina is a demanding boss, and Millie begins a relationship with Nina's husband, Andrew. The plot shifts when Millie learns the truth about both spouses, leading to violence and murder.
The production will tour the United Kingdom and conclude its run on April 29, 2028. Lionsgate has not announced plans for a United States tour.
This announcement follows the theatrical release of the film adaptation in December 2025. That movie starred Amanda Seyfried and Sydney Sweeney. Lionsgate also confirmed a sequel film based on 'The Housemaid's Secret.' That sequel is scheduled to premiere in theaters on December 17, 2027.
Jenefer Brown, Lionsgate's president of Global Products & Experiences, stated in a press release that the franchise momentum continues to grow with the stage play and sequel film in production.
