A nearly three-hour documentary about a disgraced tech founder outgrossed a major superhero horror film this weekend. You Can See Everything took the number one spot at the domestic box office, leaving the DC Studios release Clayface in second place. The two films were separated by a narrow margin of $200,000.
The film directed by Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim earned $11.4 million over the holiday weekend. That total pushes its North American gross to $64.7 million. Clayface brought in $11 million for the second position. Wildwood and Wicker occupied the third and fourth spots, respectively, while the video game adaptation Street Fighter finished fifth.
The movie debuts in theaters on Oct. 16 and follows Holmes and her partner Billy Evans in the weeks before she began serving prison time for defrauding Theranos investors. The couple allowed a crew to record their daily lives during that final period. Fielder, known for his comedy series, teams with Oppenheim for this experimental look at the founder’s life.
A24 confirmed the ranking to ABC Audio on Monday. The studio noted that the film has not yet opened in international markets. Overseas releases are scheduled to begin in the coming weeks. The domestic run continues with no changes to the current schedule.
The result marks a rare weekend where a non-franchise documentary holds the top box office position against a major studio tentpole. Fielder and Holmes have become a recognizable pairing in pop culture, often cited as a popular Halloween costume. The film’s performance extends its run despite the competitive holiday lineup.
