Apple will release iOS 27.2 to the public next week.
The update serves as the primary software push for most iPhone owners. iOS 27.1 is restricted to the iPhone Duo, leaving 27.2 as the broader distribution channel.
FaceTime gains a key capability in this build. Dual Capture, which debuted in the previous version for one-on-one calls, now supports group sessions. Users can tap the Flip button to activate the rear camera while the front camera remains live. This allows participants to show two perspectives simultaneously during multi-user video chats.
The Apple Podcasts app receives a structural overhaul. The single Up Next queue at the top of the Home tab is divided into two distinct lists. The first section, labeled New Episodes, displays the latest releases from shows the user follows. The second section, Continue Playing, lists shows that have been started but not finished. This separation replaces the previous mixed feed.
The 9to5Mac writer tested the beta and described the change as a major improvement over the prior layout. The new structure helps listeners track their viewing progress more clearly.
The Apple TV app on iPhone introduces user profiles for the first time. While tvOS devices have long supported this feature, iOS users have not. Upon first launch after the update, a selection screen appears. Users can disable this prompt if they prefer a single view. When a specific profile is active, the app adjusts its content recommendations to match that viewer. A child’s profile restricts the display to age-appropriate Apple series and movies, separating that content from an adult’s queue.
Apple includes these changes alongside new features in six other iPhone apps within the iOS 27.2 package.
