Apple has activated a hidden interactive feature on its web server to coincide with the 25th anniversary of the iPod.

The company first released the original music player on October 23, 2001. The new web element was identified by a user named Kian on X. It appears when visitors navigate to music.apple.com/ipod or any other non-existent path on the domain.

Instead of displaying a standard error message, the browser renders a functional replica of the classic hardware. Users can click the on-screen buttons to control playback. The interface also includes a working scroll wheel that responds to click and drag inputs, mimicking the physical rotation of the original device.

The digital player contains a library of pre-installed tracks from artists who were popular in 2001. Selecting a song plays a 90-second audio preview directly within the web page. No separate application or download is required to access the feature.

The iPod line has been discontinued for several years, and this web tribute serves as a nod to the device's legacy. Apple has not announced any plans for a new physical hardware release in connection with the anniversary. The current Apple Music streaming service costs $11.99 per month or is included in the Apple One bundle.
