Dean Roberts, a Yorkville architect, has been confirmed to the city’s Police Pension Fund Board. Mayor John Purcell appointed Roberts, and the City Council approved the selection on October 27. His term will expire in May 2027.
Roberts joins Jeff Burgner on the board. Burgner, a former Oswego police chief, was appointed in May 2025. His term also expires in May 2027. Purcell stated that Roberts was “highly recommended” for the position.
Roberts previously served the Kendall County Board under an $182,550 contract. As a consultant, he guided upgrades and expansion at the John Street Campus in Yorkville. The campus houses the Public Safety Center, KenCom, Animal Control, the Coroner’s Office, and the Kendall County Courthouse. The board noted his work would help achieve cost-effective improvements without overbuilding or overspending.
In his application for the pension board seat, Roberts cited his architecture background and experience working closely with police professionals. The city’s initial property tax levy allocates $1,601,419 to the Yorkville Police Department Police Pension Fund. City documents show this amount represents a 4% increase over last year’s contribution.
The City Council must conduct a public hearing on November 10 before granting final approval of the levy.
