A 22-year-old mother survived a shooting early Sunday morning that left her hospitalized in Louisville, Kentucky.
Louisville Metro Police reported the incident occurred around 3 a.m. in an alley within the 1100 block of Bardstown Road. The location is near several popular nightclubs. The victim stated she was walking back to her vehicle after attending a birthday celebration. As she approached her car, she observed a small group of people arguing. She heard gunfire, and a bullet struck her arm.
The woman described the moment of impact, noting that her arm was sideways as she ran. She said the bullet passed straight through her bone. She called 911 and was transported to UofL Hospital for emergency surgery. She noted that she was thinking of her fiancé and eight-month-old son while she waited at home.
The victim stated she did not know the individuals involved in the altercation. She believes the shooter acted in self-defense and that she was caught in crossfire. This account conflicts with an initial statement from Atomic nightclub, which identified her as the shooter’s girlfriend. She said she could no longer hold her son or breastfeed him due to her injury. She added that she would not return to bars on Bardstown Road.
Police have not reported any other injuries. They have not announced potential charges in the case.
