Former President Barack Obama quantified the cost of the United States-Israel war on Iran at $2 trillion. He presented this figure to a crowd in Ohio on Saturday as he campaigned for Democratic candidates in the upcoming midterm elections.

Obama described the conflict as an unnecessary war that nobody asked for. He argued that the current administration made a series of bad decisions during its first two years. Those decisions, he said, created a period of chaos, cruelty, corruption, and incompetence that has rarely been seen in the modern era.

The former president urged Ohioans to vote against the Republican administration. He told the audience that they now have a chance to say enough is enough. Obama shared the stage with Amy Acton, the Democratic candidate for governor, and Sherrod Brown, the former senator seeking a comeback against incumbent Jon Husted.

Obama addressed a recent controversy in the gubernatorial race involving an attack advertisement by Republican candidate Vivek Ramaswamy. The ad featured Donna Arthur, Acton’s mother, who disputes Acton’s account of a childhood involving homelessness and sexual abuse by her stepfather. Arthur urged voters not to support her daughter. Acton stated she has not seen her mother since 1978, and her brother has supported her account. The stepfather, who died in 2004, was charged with rape.

Obama defended Acton, noting that she has spoken movingly about her painful childhood, including abuse, neglect, and homelessness. He criticized Ramaswamy, stating that there is no line he will not cross and no low he will not sink to. He expressed surprise at how low the standards of behavior have dropped to allow such an advertisement to run.

Current polls give Democrats a slight lead in both Ohio races. However, results are expected to be close as the November election approaches.
