6,000 Connectors: The Scale of Anthropic's New Duet Agent

Anthropic targets business users with a new AI agent that integrates with a vast array of tools while explicitly avoiding personal errands.

The figure that defines the scope of Anthropic's latest venture is 6,000. That is the number of connectors and plug-ins the company claims its new application, Claude Duet, can access through the Claude Marketplace. In a crowded market where new AI assistants appear with weekly frequency, this specific metric highlights the company's strategy to differentiate its product from the swarm of competitors like Meta Muse, OpenAI Dots, Hark, Instinct, Grok Bot, and Fo.

The numbers extend beyond mere connectivity. Built on the Claude Opus 5.5 model, Duet is designed to operate within its own virtual machine, allowing it to execute tasks in the background while users attend to other responsibilities. The system is structured to pause and request user approval for sensitive actions, ensuring that the automation does not overstep its boundaries in critical moments.

The people and entities involved in this launch reflect a clear pivot toward professional utility rather than personal convenience. Anthropic positions Duet specifically for professionals and small businesses, drawing a sharp line against personal agents. The company explicitly notes that Duet is not intended for handling errands or booking tickets. Furthermore, unlike some rivals, it does not provide a live view of its browser usage, prioritizing backend efficiency over visual transparency of the process.

The stakes in this sector are shifting as the industry moves beyond simple chatbots toward agents that actively work on behalf of users. While Meta’s Muse remains a personal assistant, it has released a version for small businesses with app connections, and OpenAI’s Dots integrates with professional tools. Anthropic is entering this space with a focus on proactive management, where the agent monitors ongoing tasks and delivers recommendations without waiting for prompts.

Functional capabilities include building daily briefings, creating dashboards, and suggesting actions based on user data. Financial transactions are a key feature, as Duet can make online purchases via Stripe’s Link digital wallet or Shopify’s Shop Pay. However, the company has set clear limits; the agent will not trade securities or move money between accounts, requiring explicit user approval for payment steps.

Security measures are a central part of the rollout, with a new classifier checking each message to prevent sensitive information leaks. By default, the agent is programmed to turn down requests for credit card numbers or government identification. Currently, Claude Duet is available in research preview for Pro and Max customers on iOS, Android, and the web via Claude.ai, though access requires joining a waitlist.
